Battle.net Authenticator for Android

Back in February, Blizzard released a mobile authenticator for the Android platform.  It is pretty easy to set up and free! A great way to enhance the security of your Warcraft account.  It only took me about 3 minutes to setup.  Blizzards official setup page can be found here .

Basically, you need to go to the Android Market.  The app is called “battle.net Mobile Authenticator.” I just searched Warcraft and found it that way.  Download the app to your phone.  Then on your computer go to the battle.net page and login to your account management page. In the upper right hand corner you will see the “Change Security Options” tab, click there.  Then click on the “Battle.net Mobile Authenticator” image. It will ask you for two different numbers from your phone, your applications Serial Number (with the application open, press menu and select setup to find this number) and then press View Code to get a current password.  It is that easy.

Once installed you will find a screen looking like the image to the right on your phone.  The number resets every 30 seconds and gives you a constantly changing password. From the game side of things login like normal, user name and password, and another screen opens asking you for your code from your phone. You also get an in-game Corehound Pet for  posterity’s sake.

The only warning is that if you loose the phone or need to do a hard reset (deleting the application) then you will need to call Blizzard for the Authenticator to be removed from your account.  You can also remove it from your Battle.net management. So, if you know a reset is coming, plan accordingly.
