Paid Apps on the Android Market heading to Canada this week

It’s no secret that having an app store is a key factor for all successful smartphone platforms.  Google’s Android Market has been availale since day one, but it took them a while to roll out paid apps.  U.S. customers simply assume that paid apps are available to all and would be surprised to hear that many countries across the globe still only have access to free apps.

Google knows that this is an issue and it working hard to introduce paid apps to all markets.  Fortunately, if you live in Canada, paid apps could be coming to your Android phone within the next week.  Google Canada Spokesperson Wendy Rozeluk is quoted as saying:

“There are many factors that come into play to make sure the selling and purchasing processes run smoothly. It takes time to bring support to more countries, which is something we are working hard to do”.

The Montreal Gazette also notes that Google plans on making an announcement next week in regards to paid apps in Canada.  We’re hoping Google gets it right and offers customers various payment options (credit card, carrier bill, PayPal?) so that everyone in Canada can jump on the paid apps bandwagon.
