HTC pushing out Android 2.1 to the Hero in February?


The biggest question that all HTC Hero owners have these days is “when will my phone get Android 2.0?” People have been asking this question for months. HTC has added to the frustration a little, announcing on their Twitter account that Android 2.0 is in the works but not giving a release date for the ROM. Today, news has been spreading around the web that HTC will be launching an Android 2.1 ROM update for the HTC Hero between February 15 and 17. Please note that this ROM update is only for European Markets and most likely excludes and Hero devices which have been customized by carriers. If this report pans out to be true, Android 2.1 for the Hero is only about four week away.

    It saddens me that this will only be for the European market.

    Many regions around Asia were never offered the 1.6 ROM upgrade. I try to comfort myself by thinking that it was simply due to the rapid releases of Android 2.0 and 2.1 that HTC has decided to do a global ROM update to Android 2.1 instead.

    I fear that we, over here, may be forgotten again.

    I’d still have hope for an Asian market release for the Hero 2.1 ROM. There was never any 1.6 ROM for the Hero an ANY region, so you didn’t miss out on anything yet.
