AdMob November Report: global Android usage grows nearly 50% since October

Over the past few months, the android OS has slowly been gaining market share. According to the latest stats from AdMob, Android accounted for 16% of their global ad requests for the month of November. That’s nearly a 50% jump from the month of October when Android accounted for only 11% of global ad requests. The U.S. market showed a less dramatic jump from 20% in October to 27% in November. Apple’s iPhone still holds a dominant lead on mobile ads with 55% and RIM trails Android with 10%. An interesting thing to note though is that both iPhone and RIM simply held their ground from October to November. It’s clear that the iPhone may have reached its saturation level since it is only available on one carrier in the U.S. market. Even though Android appears to be the clear winner in growth for the month of November, the OS itself was outshines by Motorola’s new Android powered DROID. Though Motorola did have several Smartphone’s on the market in October, they were not even ranked in AdMob’s stats for that month. However, in the Month of November, Motorola came out of nowhere and captured 9% of the market share in the United States. It’s clear that Motorola’s advertising campaign behind the DROID is paying off and definitely helping to grow the Android base as well.
