Samsung to phase out Windows Mobile for Android

The past few months have been pretty tough for the boys over at Microsoft. New rumors are circulating that Samsung will start phasing Windows Mobile out of its Smartphone OS lineup next year. Samsung it’s Windows Mobile offerings from 80% down to 50% in 2010. The Windows Mobile reduction will continue into 2012, pushing the numbers down to just 20%. To offset the reduction of Windows Mobile handsets, Samsung will increase their use of the Android operating system by 30% for 2010 and continue the increase into 2011. But things aren’t going to be that easy for Android. In late 2010, Samsung is planning on introducing their own proprietary OS. By the end of 2012, it is expected that nearly 50% of all Samsung Smartphone’s will ship with this new OS. A while back, HTC announced that they too plan to shift production of nearly 50% of their new handsets in 2010 to run on the Android platform. Currently HTC is the largest global manufacturer of Windows Mobile phones.
